Keeler was born in Chicago in 1912. He attended Columbia University where he graduated with a degree in Public Administration. This year marks the 100th anniversary of their marriage, on May 16, 1963. On March 25, 1965, Keeler was inducted into the National Defense Honor Society. Keeler received the Medal of Honor (the highest honor that a member of the armed services can receive) in October, 1960. On May 10, 1965, he was shot dead. On June 6, 1965, Keeler's mother, Jeanette, died from a heart attack. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. On August 16, 2007, it was announced that the Navy SEALs would be inducted into the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
