San Diego, CA: The San Diego Marine Corps and the Marine Corps Recruiting Command are partnering to bring men and women to the San Diego area to be a part of the new program called San Diego Marine Recruiting. This program, to be launched at San Diego's Alamo City campus at the end of 2014, will offer opportunities for Marines to date fellow Marines from the local area as well as foreign nationals from around the world.
The Marines will also work to ensure the program is successful in its effort to attract and retain recruits.
"San Diego's vibrant Marine community, and our strong commitment to diversity, will be a great asset in our effort to make this an even more successful program," said Rear Adm. Michael O'Donnell, Chief of Naval Personnel. "This collaboration will help ensure that we have a strong, competitive program."
The Marines say the new program will be run in a way to increase the number of qualified candidates available to join the Marines for the 2015 enlistment cycle. The new program is a pilot and the exact details of how the program will work remain under wraps. The goal is for San Diego's Marine Recruiting Office to complete its pilot phase by the end of 20
The program, to be launched at a training session to take place in San Diego this week, will offer Marines career training through online courses on a variety of topics, including a bachelor's degree in a related field.
"We want to make sure we can attract the best candidates to join the Marines, and this pilot program will help us do that," said O'Donnell. "We'll be holding our first training session on May 17th at the Marine Corps Base in Coronado, and we'll conduct our pilot training in July." O'Donnell said that the new program will help the Corps reach the goals it has set for itself for recruiting.
"We've always said that we want to recruit the best, and we're going to continue to look for the best recruits," said O'Donnell. "We're not doing this for bragging rights – we're doing this because we want the best to be in our Corps."
Marines can expect a training program of the caliber of the one put in place in Germany last year, which included courses on everything from business management to military law.
O'Donnell said there are about 40,000 Marines in the Corps.
"In addition to this pilot program, we're looking for other opportunities that would give our students access to additional resources they may not have been able to access otherwise," O'Donnell said. "We also want to see if we tattooed guys can make our training available to as many people prison pen pals georgia as possible, not just those single chat online with a college degree. And, we'll be looking to expand this pilot program to other bases throughout the country."
O'Donnell said he thinks the Corps could potentially benefit from the new effort, as the Marines have had a shortage of recruiters for the past year, and the Marine Corps is in the midst of a recruitment crisis.
"The demand for manpower is high, and it has been for years," O'Donnell said. "Our job is to make sure that we're recruiting to the highest caliber of individuals possible, and that's what we're going to be doing."
O'Donnell said the goal of the pilot program is to bring Marines to a place where they can get a "full education," which means the Marines get all of the education they need to succeed.
O'Donnell said the program will not require any special skills, and that it will be offered free of charge to all Marines at any time, for any reason.
"There are lots of places where you can learn a lot of useful things," O'Donnell said. "It's something you can take with you to chatroom irani your next assignment, or your next job, so you don't have to buy any training again. And it'll provide a great service to the Corps and the country."
O'Donnell said the Marines hope to see as many Marines apply as possible, and the Corps is working on "frequently asked questions" to help them make the process easier.
"There are a lot of places that are in the process of building their own corps," O'Donnell said. "We want to make sure that we're recruiting american single girls to the highest caliber of individuals possible, and that's what we're going to be doing."
The program has its own Web page, so Marines can learn more about the program.
"The goal is to bring Marines to a level where they can begin to find their own purpose and career path," O'Donnell said.
For Marines interested in applying, the website having a boyfriend in the army explains that if you are in your mid-30s and you are a female with no children, you must be able to commit to a minimum of one year of active duty.
The program also asks for financial support, as well as commitment to "a life of service" through volunteering, attending events and supporting Marines in need.
"The goal of our program is to create a group of Marines that we can call upon in times of need, regardless of where they are from or what their military affiliation is," O'Donnell said. "It's really to help people who don't have the opportunities and the resources of what we have to really become Marines who can make a difference in the world."
As of press time, O'Donnell said the Marines had received applications from 1,500 men and women, but he said more applications are on the way.
